Zahn McClarnon will be back as Lt. Joe Leaphorn in the series based on Tony Hillerman’s novels.
Looks like we won’t have to wait much longer for Season 2 of Dark Winds, the acclaimed AMC series based on the Leaphorn & Chee novels by Tony Hillerman: Informed sources tell as that on July 30, we’ll be reunited with Zahn McClarnon as Tribal Police Lt. Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, and Jessica Matten as Sgt. Bernadette Manuelito as they continue to protect and serve the citizenry in their corner of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley during the early 1970s.
As Deadline reported earlier this year, two new cast members — Nicholas Logan (The Inspection, Dopestick) and Jeri Ryan (a.k.a. Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Picard) — will be added to the mix for Season 2. Logan will play Colton Wolf, a twisted assassin with a secret that puts him on a collision course with Joe Leaphorn, while Ryan will appear as Rosemary Vines, a femme fatale whose physical frailties hide her naked ambition as she manipulates Jim Chee, leaving a trail of bodies in her wake.
There also will be a new face on the other side of the cameras: John Wirth, former showrunner for another popular AMC series, C&I reader favorite Hell on Wheels, has signed on as showrunner and executive producer for Season 2 of Dark Winds. He will be working in tandem with a team of fellow executive producers that includes McClarnon, Robert Redford, Chris Eyre and Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.
“I’m delighted to be returning home to AMC to join the Dark Winds team for Season 2 and roll up my sleeves alongside Zahn McClarnon, Chris Eyre, George RR Martin, Robert Redford and others,” Wirth told Variety. “I’m a long-time fan of the Tony Hillerman novels and am looking forward to working with my indigenous partners to bring his books and the world of the Navajo Nation to life on screen.”
