Three new Annies songs, a reminder of a new western’s release, and the best of our homepage.
Many months ago, we got a hint of some new music in the works from Pistol Annies, the delightfully twangy trio featuring Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley. This week they dropped the date for the third album. Interstate Gospel — it hits stores Nov. 2. But we don’t have to wait another second to hear a few songs from it. Push play below to listen to three tracks, and keep reading for our snap reactions:
“Got My Name Changed Back”: They’ve always been spitting Loretta levels of truth, and this little divorce ditty is no exception. I love hearing Miranda rattle off, “Now who I was ain’t who I be.”
“Best Years of My Life”: Don’t know why, but I’m catching some Judds vibes from this melancholy track. All three women take a verse, and you’re reminded of the distinctive qualities and character of each voice.
“Interstate Gospel”: The title hints at the sonic influences here. We have a driving beat, some honky-tonk piano, and soulful runs around every corner. Naturally, this one will be a frequent road-trip selection.
Next up, a look at some interesting tidbits from the new-and-improved cowboysindians.com:
FUN WITH FRIED FOODS: Now that the State Fair of Texas has kicked off, our food editor, José R. Ralat, provides a belt-busting preview of the new prize-winning offerings at the world-famous concessions. Wanna know what Arroz Con Leche tastes like? Click here.
BUT WAIT, BEFORE YOU OVEREAT: You might want to give our latest Western men’s fashions a once-over. Don’t keep yourself from fitting into some of these fall-to-winter layers.
DIDN’T GET ENOUGH MUSIC? We’ve got you covered with a Q&A with country singer Ryan Hurd and a song premiere from Vanessa Peters.
And for this week’s parting shot, I remind you that the offbeat western The Sisters Brothers is now playing in select cities and opening wider soon. Watch the final trailer below, and read the just-posted chat with star John C. Reilly.
