Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren return for the Yellowstone prequel Feb. 23.
Great timing, eh? During a commercial break early in Sunday’s Season 5 finale of Yellowstone, viewers got an advance look at Season 2 of 1923, the critically acclaimed prequel to the Taylor Sheridan-produced series.
Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, Brendan Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer are among the stars who will return for the second (and reportedly final) season of the drama, which will begin streaming Feb. 23 on Paramount+. Season 1 episodes currently are rerunning on Paramount Network.
According to Paramount: “In the second season of 1923, a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob (Ford) and Cara (Mirren) back at Dutton ranch. With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer (Sklenar) embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra (Schlaepfer) sets off on her own harrowing Transatlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.”
During an interview earlier this year with Forbes for It Ends With Us, the hit romantic drama in which he co-starred with Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, Skelnar said that, after having had the 1923 scripts in hand for more than six months, “I can confidently say that [Season 2] is going to be absolutely incredible.”
Tell us more, please.
"The tone shifts a lot and it’s definitely a bit darker. It’s very beautiful," he told Forbes, adding that he will get “plenty of Helen and Harrison time, and it’s going to be special.”
But, apparently, it will also be the end of the line.
“The finale of the series is probably one of the best things I’ve read in my life," Sklenar said. “I’ve kind of known how it was going to end since day one — Taylor kind of told me. I knew the full arc of Spencer from day one, so in shooting part one, you’re mindful of where he needs to go. I’m really excited.”
Other 1923 series regulars scheduled to return for Season 2: Michelle Randolph (who’s currently co-starring in another Taylor Sheridan series, Landman), Timothy Dalton, Aminah Nieves, Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Brian Geraghty, Sebastian Roché, and Jennifer Carpenter.
