The bluegrass queen is joined by Trisha Yearwood and Jeannie Sealey for a new take on the Jimmy Buffett classic.
Bluegrass queen Rhonda Vincent has traveled far and wide to select songs for her new album Destinations And Fun Places, which is set for release Friday, Aug. 9. And the journey has brought her to the songbook of the late, great Jimmy Buffett.
C&I is proud to premiere a prime cut from Vincent’s album: “Margaritaville,” her irresistibly enjoyable take on the classic Buffett tune. Listen closely, and you’ll hear that she has been joined on the recording by country music greats and sister Grand Ole Opry members Trisha Yearwood and Jeannie Seely.
“All the songs on this new album are about destinations,” Vincent says, “and ‘Margaritaville’ is clearly a destination for many. It’s not a song or content I ever expected to sing, but it is clearly a favorite of many, and it was so much fun to record and perform. People instantly start singing it with us, as they do with most of the classic songs on this new project. This version is kind of an anthem for women, and I thought who better to sing it with me than Jeannie Seely and Trisha Yearwood.
“I was fortunate to be in the studio as both of my Opry sisters sang their part on the song. Trisha said it was so fun to sing a song she had only sung along with on the radio. I love that she agreed to sing the second verse and chorus. It really gave the song a beautiful texture. Her voice is so smooth, and I loved getting to sing with Trisha and Jeannie.”
Last year, C&I premiered another cut selected for Destinations And Fun Places: Vincent’s distinctive and delightful version of Arlo Guthrie’s hit (written by Steve Goodman), “City of New Orleans,”
