Based on author David Grann’s non-fiction best-seller, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma, when oil brought a fortune to members of the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, the catastrophically pliant nephew of William Hale (Robert De Niro), a ruthless cattleman who involves his nephew in a land-grabbing scheme that would eventually claim dozens of Osage victims. Among the endangered: Burkhardt’s wife Mollie (Lily Gladstone), an Osage woman who has inherited an oil fortune.
