Steve McQueen’s Malibu beachfront mansion is for sale for $17 million.
A Malibu oceanfront home once owned by legendary actor Steve McQueen has hit the market, listed at a cool $16.995 million.
The 4,335-square-foot, four-bedroom estate sits perched overlooking the Pacific, its three decks offering prime southwesterly views from Zuma Beach down to Point Dume. The house is in a gated enclave that’s desirable to celebrities, Victoria Point, off Pacific Coast Highway.
When McQueen and his second wife, actor Ali MacGraw, lived there starting in the early 1970s, solitude was what they were seeking. “They could walk, unrecognized and undisturbed, along the beach together every afternoon,” Marc Eliot wrote in the 2012 Steve McQueen: A Biography.

The house provided a refuge from the movie business and Hollywood lifestyle, Eliot explained.
McQueen filmed The Getaway, which also featured MacGraw, and Papillon during the time they lived in the house. He played a veteran bull rider in Junior Bonner in 1972.
The couple divorced in 1978, and McQueen remarried but died shortly after, in 1980, at age 50. McQueen’s son, Chad, sold the house for $7.2 million in July 2020, records show. The current sellers purchased the property two months later for $8.35 million and have made significant renovations.
A highlight of the home is its main level, with the kitchen, dining, and living room area transitioning to the spectacular beachfront panorama via a disappearing glass wall. Primary suites on the upper and lower levels feature wood-paneled walls and spa-like bathrooms, with sprawling decks to match the main floor.

C&I readers can’t be faulted one bit for favoring McQueen in 1960’s The Magnificent Seven – ranked No. 5 in the 100 Best Westerns Ever Made (July 2021 issue) – or in Nevada Smith over the McQueen who played in The Great Escape, Bullitt, and The Thomas Crown Affair. But whatever the genre, he was always the quintessentially cool actor.
