Permian Paradise
Artist Jeffrey Kosberg's sculpture honors his love of Texas' oil fields and cattle ranches
Like so many vacationers do, Jeffrey Kosberg fell hard for the Southwest — the landscape, the lore, the lifestyle. So he decided to leave his East Coast life behind and retire in Santa Fe, New Mexico, finally forfeiting a career as an attorney for that of an artist. “In law school I sold contemporary paintings, and I always had something going on in the wood shop,” he points out. From his folk art collection, Permian Paradise is a marriage of Kosberg’s skills as a painter and craftsman that whimsically depicts the oil fields and cattle ranches of Texas ($3,700). “In a playful way, it wraps up everything you think of Texas,” says the artist. “[The sculpture’s name] is a play on words. If it’s paradise to someone in Texas, it’s a Permian paradise.” 505.992.0055, www.kosbergart.com
