The World’s Sixth-largest Regular Season Indoor ProRodeo
Springtime brings rodeo to Texas for the world’s sixth-largest regular season indoor ProRodeo. Broncs, bulls, feisty calves, rodeo clowns, daredevil cowgirls and cowboys, mutton-bustin’, music, games, and food — Rodeo Austin has it all. Hosted by the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo at the Travis County Expo Center, Rodeo Austin will be held March 11 – 26.
A main highlight of the rodeo events, the Junior Livestock Show is the fastest-growing show of its kind. But for students who prefer drawing horses to riding them, Rodeo Austin holds the Youth Western Art Show, an art competition that selects 20 top pieces in sculpture and illustration by young Western artists to be sold at the Youth Auction on March 25. To officially kick off the rodeo season, the Rodeo Austin Gala will be held February 12 at the Palmer Event Center, with Vince Gill and Jack Ingram in attendance as the headlining entertainment. One of the city’s largest black-tie events, the gala is also among the organization’s largest fundraisers of the year.
A nonprofit dedicated to “Promoting Youth Education — Preserving Western Heritage,” Rodeo Austin has donated $25 million to students since the inception of its scholarship program in 1981. Last year the program offered financial aid to 46 college-bound students, who are free to choose any degree they desire.
