'Django Unchained' Earning Early Honors

Even before it officially opens Christmas Day at theaters and drive-ins everywhere, Django Unchained — the subject of our January 2013 cover story — already is roping in some honors from various cinema-centric groups.
On Monday, the American Film Institute named Quentin Tarantino’s revisionist western one of the Top 10 movies of 2012. (Also on the list: Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.)
And just a few days ago, the National Board of Review honored Leonardo DiCaprio — who appears on our January cover alongside Django co-star Jamie Foxx — as the year’s Best Supporting Actor for his flamboyant portrayal of villainous plantation owner Calvin J. Candie.
Nominations for the 70th annual Golden Globes will be announced Wednesday. Don’t be surprised if Django Unchained looms large — and frequently — when the honorees are announced. In the meantime, here's a look at the latest trailer:
