From Cattle to Saddles
Clair Kehrberg Fine Leather Art
Raised in the cattle country of eastern Oregon, Clair Kehrberg has been riding horses and working with her hands since childhood. But her dream wasn’t to just be a cowgirl — it was to make saddles. In 2004, she opened Clair’s Saddle Shop in John Day, where she has since broadened her scope to include chaps and chinks, handbags, and home décor, changing the name to Clair Kehrberg Fine Leather Art. But she hasn’t forgotten her original focus. Paired with a small book documenting its construction, each saddle is signed and numbered by the artist. Elegantly tooled and embellished with precious metals, Saddle 20 reflects Kehrberg’s true mastery of her craft ($15,850).
