Brecken Merrill also will join Luke Grimes in the new series premiering at midseason on CBS.
Call it a Yellowstone reunion, and you won’t be far off the mark.
Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty and Brecken Merrill will be joining Luke Grimes in repeating their roles in the phenomenally popular Taylor Sheridan series for Y: Marshals, the spinoff drama set to premiere at midseason on CBS.
Birmingham will be back as Chief Thomas Rainwater, with Mo Brings Plenty returning as Mo, Rainwater’s close friend and confidant, and Merrill again portraying Tate Dutton, son of Grimes’ Kayce Dutton.

The casting was announced Tuesday, along with news that Native American actor Tatanka Means of The Son, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 will co-star as Miles, a member of the U.S. Marshals unit that Kayce Dutton joins.
According to Variety, other members of the ensemble include Arielle Kebbel (Rescue: Hi-Surf, Ballers) and Ash Santos (Pulse, Mayor of Kingstown) as fellow U.S. Marshals; Brett Cullen (Apollo 13, Joker) as Harry Gifford, head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana; and Logan Marshall-Green (Big Sky, And Just Like That…) as Pete Calvin, a friend from Kayce’s time in the military.
Here is the official Y: Marshals logline: “With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Kayce Dutton (Grimes) joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
There’s no word yet as to whether Yellowstone co-star Kelsey Asbille will return as Monica, Kayce’s wife and Tate’s mother. Watch this space for further developments.
