Each September, the pulse of tradition and adrenaline beats loud in Casper, Wyoming as the Championship of Champions Indian Relay Races gallop into town. As one of the oldest and most exciting equestrian sports in the country, Indian Relay is a spectacle unlike anything else. Rooted in centuries of Native history, this high-stakes event features skilled riders leaping from horse to horse at full speed, racing bareback around the track in a blur of courage, strength and heritage.
What began as a way for Native communities to showcase horsemanship has grown into a national championship—and Casper is proud to host it. With teams traveling from across the country and fans filling the stands at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds, this is your chance to witness a sport where tradition, athleticism and heart collide.
While the races bring you to town, the rest of Casper invites you to stay and explore. Spend a morning diving into Casper’s history at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center or the Fort Caspar Museum.
