The star of The Warrant and The Warrant: Breaker’s Law plays a retired rodeo champ driven to compete one last time.
Neal McDonough is back in the saddle again.
The veteran actor whose credits include The Warrant, The Warrant: Breaker’s Law, and Outlaw Posse, and who has made memorable impressions while guesting on such TV series as Justified and Yellowstone, is the star of The Last Rodeo.
Slated as an opening night attraction at Dallas’ USA Film Festival on April 23 before its May 23 theatrical release, the contemporary drama also features Christopher McDonald (Quiz Show, MAX’s Hacks), Mykelti Williamson (Forrest Gump, Chicago P.D.), Sarah Jones (For All Mankind, Texas Rising), and PBR Champion Daylon Swearingen.
Jon Avnet (Fried Green Tomatoes, Up Close & Personal) directed the Angel Studios release — which was filmed in collaboration with the Professional Bull Riding Association — from a script by McDonough, Avnet, and Derek Presley.

McDonough plays Joe Wainwright, an aging retired champion bull rider, who faces a crisis along with his daughter Sally (Jones) that can only be solved by Joe’s entering and winning a bull riding competition.
Joe must connect with another bull fighter, Charlie Williams (Williamson), his estranged best friend of many years, to enter the legends contest as the oldest contestant in history. Despite strained relations with his strong-willed daughter, he must confront his demons and consider the greatest sacrifice for his family.
“Joe Wainwright,” McDonough says, “is on a journey from America’s heartland into the hearts and souls of everyone who’s ever loved their family so much, they struggled for the words to express it properly. This film has an incredible heart with a universal message of love, vulnerability, and reconciliation that the world so desperately needs right now.
“And my frequent collaborator and friend Jon Avnet is the director who could best bring this story to audiences around the world.”
