Billy Bob Thornton stars as oil company crisis manager Tommy Norris in the Tarylor Sheridan-produced series.
It’s official: Landman, the smash-hit Taylor Sheridan-produced series starring Billy Bob Thornton as Texas oil company crisis manager Tommy Norris, has been renewed for a second season by Paramount+.
And why not? The series has been an industrial-strength viewer magnet ever since last November, when it attracted 35 million global streaming viewers for the premiere episode. But wait, there’s more: Landman had the most-watched global premiere and finale of any series in Paramount+ history.
Indeed, the show ranked as a Top 10 SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) original series across all SVODs for the final quarter of 2024, alongside Paramount+’s Tulsa King and Lioness (which, perhaps not coincidentally, also are produced by Taylor Sheridan).

Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, couldn’t be more pleased with those numbers.
“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year,” McCarthy said Tuesday in a prepared statement, “because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the neo-western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth.”
In addition to Billy Bob Thornton, the Landman cast includes Ali Larter as Angela Norris, Tommy’s mercurial ex-wife; Jacob Lofland as Cooper Norris, Tommy and Angela’s ambitious son; Michelle Randolph as Ainsley Norris, Cooper’s strong-willed and fun-loving sister; Kayla Wallace as Rebecca Falcone, a hard-charging lawyer recently hired by M-Tex Oil, Tommy Norris’ employer; Colm Feore as Nathan, an oil company attorney and administrator who resides with Tommy and his extended family; and recent Oscar nominee Demi Moore as Cami Miller, Tommy’s longtime friend and — spoiler alert! — widow of M-Tex Oil owner Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), who died in the Season 1 finale.

Landman was co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, and based on Boomtown, the well-received 11-part Texas Monthly podcast that was written and hosted by Wallace. According to Paramount+, the show “is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas and is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs. The series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires that are fueling a boom so big it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”
All ten Landman Season 1 episodes remain available for streaming on Paramount+. No premiere date has yet been set for Season 2. Watch this space for further developments.
