C&I cover star Zahn McClarnon will be back in action when the popular series return March 9.
“We all have a line that runs through the middle of our heart that separates monsters from men. And I’m afraid I have crossed that line.”
That’s the burning concern expressed by Lt. Joe Leaphorn (C&I reader favorite Zahn McClarnon) in the first trailer for Season 3 of Dark Winds, the acclaimed neo-Western drama based on the crime novels of Tony Hillerman. Set to return March 9 on AMC and AMC+, the series has been expanded from six episodes to eight as it picks up six months after the events of Season 2, to find Leaphorn understandably fearful that, after touching evil so often in the line of work and elsewhere, he has drifted over to the dark side.
According to AMC, Season 3 focuses on Leaphorn (McClarnon) and his deputy Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) as they investigate the disappearance of two boys who left in their wake only an abandoned bicycle and a blood-stained patch of ground. Meanwhile, Bernadette “Bernie” Manuelito (Jessica Matten) attempts to settle into her new life 500 miles away from home with the Border Patrol — and uncovers a conspiracy involving human and drug smuggling.
Joining Season 3 as guest stars are Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg, Fear the Walking Dead) as FBI Special Agent Sylvia Washington, Bruce Greenwood (Meek’s Cutoff, Gerald’s Game) as Tom Spenser, Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C., Blue Beetle) as Budge, Tonantzin Carmelo (La Brea, The English) as Border Patrol Agent Eleanda Garza, Alex Meraz (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Walking Dead) as Border Patrol Agent Ivan Muños, Terry Serpico (Law & Order SVU, Yellowstone) as Border Patrol Senior Chief Ed Henry, Derek Hinkey (American Primeval, Americana) as Shorty Bowlegs, Phil Burke (Hell on Wheels, Rabbit Hole) as Michael Halsey, and Christopher Heyerdahl (Hell on Wheels, Under the Banner of Heaven) as Dr Reynolds.
Returning as series regulars: Deanna Allison (Accused, Edge of America) as Emma Leaphorn, Joe’s wife, and A. Martinez (Longmire, Blue Ridge: The Series) as Scarborough Police Department Acting Chief Gordo Sena.
If you want to catch up before Season 3 kicks off, take note: The first two seasons of Dark Winds are now available on AMC+ and via the AMC Collection on Netflix.
