We spoke with the veteran actor about everything from acting opposite John Wayne to launching a new INSP series.
If you’re headed to Longmire Days in Wyoming this weekend, please say howdy to A Martinez for us.
The multitalented Native American actor will be on hand to meet and greet fans of Longmire, the popular TV series based on the novels of Craig Johnson, in which he memorably portrayed Jacob Nighthorse, the devious wheeler-dealer whose motives weren’t always the purest as he established the Four Feathers Resort and Casino.
Of course, other fans might want to inquire about what it was like to work with John Wayne way back when Martinez played one of the young title characters in The Cowboys (1972). Or his more recent roles in Dark Winds, where he’ll be returning soon for Season 3 to play Sheriff Gordo Dena, or Far Haven, the well-received INSP Western in which he rode alongside former Longmire co-star Bailey Chase.

Speaking of INSP: Some folks might want to know more about Blue Ridge: The Series, a spinoff from the 2020 INSP movie — set to premiere July 28 on the network — in which he’s cast as Connor McGrath, brother of the character played in the original film Graham Greene.
And yes, there doubtless will be a few — well, actually more than a few — who’ll ask about his prominent roles in the daytime dramas Santa Barbara, Port Charles, and General Hospital. Which, by the way, he’s always proud to discuss.

We were fortunate enough to catch up with A Martinez this week to talk about these and other movies and TV shows on his resume — including the cult-fave 1978 Western Shoot the Sun Down, in which he appeared opposite Christopher Walken and Sacheen Littlefeather (whom he recalls with deep respect). But first, of course, we had to talk about Longmire Days.
