Seasons 1 and 2 of the drama based on Tony Hillerman’s novels will be available for streaming Aug. 19.
If you’re hankering to binge the first two seasons of Dark Winds, the acclaimed neo-Western drama starring C&I reader favorite Zahn McClarnon and based on the novels of Tony Hillerman, you’ll soon be able to Netflix and… watch.
AMC announced Tuesday plans to license no fewer than 15 shows to the streamer, as part of a “curated selection” of AMC-branded series. Most of the shows will be available on Netflix starting Aug. 19, with two others — The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 1, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, Season 1 — following on Jan. 13, 2025.
In addition to Dark Winds, the catalogue of repurposed AMC series includes That Dirty Black Bag, a Spaghetti Western-flavored tale of romance, revenge, and reaping bounties starring Dominic Cooper (My Lady Jane) as an incorruptible lawman. Cooper also stars in another AMC-Netflix crossover: Preacher, a comic book-based supernatural adventure that originally ran for four seasons on AMC.
Rounding out the list of Aug. 19 Netflix premieres: The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Season 1; Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire, Season 1; Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, Season 1; Monsieur Spade, Season 1; A Discovery of Witches, Seasons 1-3; Fear the Walking Dead, Seasons 1-8; Gangs of London, Seasons 1-2; Into the Badlands, Seasons 1-3; Kevin can F*** Himself, Seasons 1-2; and The Terror, Season 1.
According to Variety, “AMC is hoping that by tapping into Netflix’s humongous audience (compare AMC’s 11.5 million streaming subscribers to Netflix’s 269.6 million), the network might be able to bring mass attention to lesser seen yet critically acclaimed series.” The AMC shows will be available commercial-free, even on Netflix’s ad tier.
The third season of Dark Winds is tentatively set to kick off on AMC in early 2025.
