Mo Brings Plenty, Keith Carradine, and the late Buster Welch also will be recognized at the April 13 event.
C&I reader favorites Reba McEntire and Mo Brings Plenty will be among the honorees at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s 63rd annual Western Heritage Awards in Oklahoma City.
Among the other notables scheduled to be recognized at the April 13 event: Actors Keith Carradine, the late Noah Beery Jr. (1913-1994) and the late John Smith (1931-1995), who will be inducted into the museum’s Hall of Great Western Performers.
“We are thrilled to announce the exceptional inductees and award recipients for this year's Western Heritage Awards,” Pat Fitzgerald, the museum's president and CEO, said in a prepared statement. “Each individual being honored embodies the spirit of the American West in their own unique way, contributing to its rich tapestry of culture and history. We’re excited to celebrate and honor their vast talent and contributions for generations to come.”
McEntire, the country music superstar and judge for TV’s The Voice who recently impressed millions with her stirring rendition of the National Anthem at Super Bowl LVIII, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award during the presentation of the Western Heritage Awards.
Mo Brings Plenty, the Yellowstone star who graced the cover of our August/September 2023 issue, will receive the first New Horizon Award, described as an honor “given to a living individual who has shown exceptional promise and made a significant impact in the Western genre while demonstrating the values and integrity of Western culture.”
Also on the awards program: Famed Texas cowboy Buster Welch (1928-2022), aptly described as “one of the three gods in the state of Texas” during his cameo appearance in a Season 4 episode of Yellowstone, and Oklahoman Jack LeForce, a leading figure in the agricultural community once employed as a ranch foreman for John Wayne, will be inducted into the museum’s Hall of Great Westerners. Don Reeves, who served on the curatorial staff of the National Cowboys & Western Heritage Museum for 38 years, will receive the Chester A. Reynolds Award, named in honor of the museum’s founder.
