One day before nominations for the 2023 Emmy Awards are announced, the Hollywood Critics Association has released its own list of outstanding broadcast, cable and streaming programs worthy of recognition.
Yellowstone leads the pack with seven HCA Award nominations in the following categories: Best Cable Drama Series, Best Actor in a Broadcast Network or Cable Drama Series (Kevin Costner), Best Actress in a Broadcast Network or Cable Drama Series (Kelly Reilly), Best Supporting Actor in a Broadcast Network or Cable Drama Series (Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes and Wes Bentley), and Best Writing in a Broadcast Network or Cable Drama Series (Taylor Sheridan, “Horses in Heaven” episode).

The Yellowstone prequel 1923 claimed five nominations: Best Streaming Drama Series, Best Actor in a Streaming Drama Series (Harrison Ford), Best Actress in a Streaming Drama Series (Helen Mirren), Best Writing in a Streaming Drama Series (Taylor Sheridan), and Best Directing in a Streaming Drama Series (Ben Richardson).

The biographical miniseries George & Tammy nabbed nominations for Best Broadcast Network or Cable Limited Series, Best Actor in a Broadcast Network or Cable Limited Series or TV Movie (Michael Shannon), Best Actress in a Broadcast Network or Cable Limited Series or TV Movie (Jessica Chastain), and Best Casting in a Limited Series or TV Movie.

Prey, the acclaimed thriller about an 18th century Comanche woman warrior who battles an extraterrestrial huntsman, was nominated for Best Streaming Movie, Best Actress in a Limited Series or Streaming Movie (Amber Midthunder), and Best Directing in a Limited Series or Streaming Movie (Dan Trachtenberg).

And while Alaska Daily received only one nomination, it was in a major category — Best Broadcast Network Drama Series.

By the way: Due to the ongoing WGA strike and the possibility of a SAG/AFTRA strike, presentation of the 2023 HCA TV Awards, originally scheduled for Aug. 12 and 13, will occur on a date yet to be determined. Watch this space for further developments.
