The multitalented actor will be back in the saddle during the encore run of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel.
LaMonica Garrett has been quite a busy fellow since the ten-episode run of 1883, producer Taylor Sheridan’s first Yellowstone prequel. He made a strong impression as a treacherous Navy SEAL commander targeted for revenge in the Prime Video action-adventure The Terminal List, then signed on for a key role opposite Billy Zane, Martin Sensmeier and Quavo in the forthcoming thriller Takedown. And he’ll soon be seen as a CIA operative in another Taylor Sheridan series: Special Ops: Lioness, the espionage thriller starring Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman that premieres July 23 on Paramount+.
But Garrett was more than happy to fit into his crowded schedule this week another visit to the C&I Studio to chat about 1883, which kicks off an encore run Sunday, June 18, on Paramount Network.
Before saddling up for Sheridan’s period drama, the San Francisco-born actor had already proven he had the right stuff for tough stuff as a series regular on Sons of Anarchy, Designated Survivor and The Last Ship — and as the notorious Monitor and Anti-Monitor in CW’s Arrowverse franchise inspired by DC Comics. But he achieved a new level of recognition for his riveting performance in 1883 as Thomas, the former Buffalo Solider who helped his longtime friend and fellow Pinkerton agent Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott) lead settlers on a perilous wagon train journey.
Garrett is justly proud of his work in 1883, and grateful for the bond he quickly formed during filming with co-star Elliott. And yes, he’s still amused whenever it’s noted that Thomas and Noemi, the newly widowed mother played by Gratiela Brancusi, got to share a storyline with a happy ending, in marked contrast to many other characters in the series. Would he up for a spin-off series focused on the couple? Absolutely.
