The new Taylor Sheridan series starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren will debut Dec. 18.
Mark your calendar: 1923, the eagerly anticipated sequel to 1883 and prequel to Yellowstone, will premiere Sunday, Dec. 18, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada. The series will premiere the following day, Dec. 19, on Paramount+ in the U.K. and Australia, and on dates yet to be determined in other Paramount+ international markets.
Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren — who previously teamed in The Mosquito Coast, director Peter Weir’s 1986 filmization of Paul Theroux’s novel — star in 1923 as Jacob and Cara Dutton, owners of the Yellowstone ranch during an eventful period in American history. According to Paramount, the latest entry in the ever-expanding Taylor Sheridan television universe will “introduce a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early 20th Century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.”
In addition to Ford and Mirren, Timothy Dalton, the James Bond of The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, was recently announced as a 1923 series regular. Other members of the cast include Brandon Sklenar (The Offer), Darren Mann (Animal Kingdom), Michelle Randolph (A Snow White Christmas), James Badge Dale (Hightown), Marley Shelton (Scream), Brian Geraghty (Big Sky), Aminah Nieves (Blueberry), Julia Schlaepfer (The Politician) and Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones).
But wait, there’s more: The showbiz website Deadline reported Wednesday that Paramount+ has already begun negotiations with Taylor Sheridan for a second eight-episode season of 1923 even before the first season begins airing. That sounds like a vote of confidence to us.
Deadline also reported that Sheridan “is so drilled down into the Dutton ranch family dynasty behind Yellowstone that he is contemplating two separate limited series that encompass the struggle to hang onto the ranch in the 1940s and the 1960s.”

And speaking of Yellowstone: The two-hour Season 5 premiere of the phenomenally popular series is slated for Nov. 13 on Paramount Network, followed by the series premiere of Tulsa King, Sheridan’s contemporary crime drama starring Sylvester Stallone, on Paramount+. AMC Theaters will screen a special double-feature preview of both premiere episodes in dozens of moviehouses nationwide Saturday, Oct. 29.
