These wilderness retreats are nestled in the Owyhee Canyonlands of southwestern Idaho.
At the end of a road in Idaho’s remote backcountry sits the secluded 45 and Star Valley Ranches. The property is located in the Oywhee Canyonlands, known as the Owyhees, a sparsely populated region that spans portions of Idaho, Nevada, and Oregon. As Hall and Hall real estate partner Trent Jones says so eloquently, it’s a place where “sheer canyon walls swell to broad sagebrush plateaus that roll across one of the largest intact and undeveloped expanses of public land remaining in the Lower 48.”
Totaling 480 acres together, the 45 Ranch lies at the confluence of the South Fork of the Owyhee River and the seasonal Little Owyhee River, and Star Valley Ranch is about 10 miles south of there in its own canyon at the confluence of Tent Creek and the Little Owyhee River. Ranch headquarters, which includes the owner’s cabin, a caretaker’s home, several ranch buildings, a stone-built homestead house, and an outdoor gazebo and grilling area, is located on the 45. Additional ranch structures, including a shop and storage building, are located on Star Valley.
If off-the-grid living is what you’re interested in, these ranches are for you.
