Lane Garrison chosen Best Actor by reader ballot for “The Iron Orchard.”
Looks like it was a good year for Badland.
The edgy independently produced western about a straight-shooting Pinkerton agent (played by Kevin Makey) on a manhunt during the post-Civil War era loomed large in balloting for the third annual C&I Movie Awards, winning top honors for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay (both Justin Lee).
But wait, there’s more: Mira Sorvino was voted Best Actress for her multifaceted performance as Sarah Cooke, a resourceful rancher who keeps a watchful eye on her ailing father, and Amanda Wyss received the Best Supporting Actress nod for persuasively playing Alice Hollenback, a saloon operator eager to free herself from the control of a corrupt town boss.
Two other films also cracked the winners circle: Ty Roberts’ The Iron Orchard, which was represented by Best Actor honoree Lane Garrison for his outstanding performance as Jim McNeely, a Texas oil man obsessed with rising from his humble beginnings in post-WWII Texas; and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre’s The Mustang, represented by Best Supporting Actor honoree (and Badland co-star) Bruce Dern for his memorable portrayal of Myles, the blunt-spoken wrangler in charge of the wild horse training program at a Nevada prison.
