From writer-director Justin Lee, who previously gave us the gritty westerns Any Bullet Will Do and A Reckoning, here’s the latest: Badland, a new Wild West action drama starring Kevin Makely, country music artist Trace Adkins, Oscar winner Mira Sorvino, Jeff Fahey, Tony Todd, Amanda Wyss, James Russo, and C&I reader favorites Bruce Dern and Wes Studi. The movie will be released Nov. 1 in theaters and On Demand and on Digital HD.
Adkins — who often impresses as a film actor when he isn’t busy performing and recording —recently spoke very highly of Lee during an interview with C&I, saying the filmmaker “was great to work with, and he was very confident. You could just tell he knew exactly what he wanted, and exactly the shots that he wanted, and he didn’t waste any time trying to figure out what he wanted. He knew exactly what he wanted to do and everything went quickly, smoothly, and I really enjoyed working with him.”
What’s it all about? According to the production company press release: “More than a decade after the Civil War, a nation tries to rebuild as an outlaw faction takes root across the West. In the unincorporated parts of the country, this plague grows with no one to regulate. Gunslinging detective Matthias Breecher (Kevin Makely) is hired to track down the worst of the Confederate war criminals (Trace Adkins, Bruce Dern and Jeff Fahey), with nothing more than his wits and his revolver. As he roams the Old West seeking justice, his resolve is tested when he meets a determined pioneer woman (Mira Sorvino) who is far more than she seems. As the lawless converge on this lawman, death is inevitable in a terrain that welcomes no stranger.”
