Billionaire investor lists his Colorado playground for a whopping $46 million.
If ever there was a place to please the country clubbers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, Westlands is it. Billionaire investor Henry R. Kravis is selling his mammoth property in the White River Valley of Colorado for $46 million, and it offers everything from a private four-hole golf course designed by Major-winner Greg Norman to a two-mile stretch of wadeable trout fishing on the North Fork of the White River.
The primary residence (which comprises 19,000 square feet), the outdoor pool, and two guest cabins sit atop a pristine green hillside with insatiable views of mountains, meadows, and that gorgeous meandering freestone river. Mr. Kravis prioritized the environs of Westlands to the extent that public land managers reference its stellar forest, vegetation, and wildlife management as an example for the region.
This faithful stewardship of the land also extends to the indoor atmosphere. Listing agent Brian Smith of Hall and Hall says that the sale price includes most of the property’s furniture, some of which was made on site by French craftsmen. The architecture features bent log rafters, large fireplaces (some of the mantels were imported from European castles), and no shortage of space with five bedrooms (including the master suite), a library, wine cellar, game room, theater, indoor hot tub, sauna, steam rooms, and wet bar.
In addition to the accommodations, the golfing, the fishing, the views, and the pool, Westlands also boasts a tennis court across from the golf course, bird- and trap-shooting areas, and trails for horseback riding, biking, and hiking. Just about anything can be taken care of at the ranch, since it also has its own woodworking shop, mechanical shop, greenhouse, horse barn, staff headquarters and lodging, and a helicopter hanger and landing pad.
Should one ever want to explore the area outside Westlands, it's not hard to head out on the Flat Tops Scenic Byway and visit the nearest town of Meeker, which provides anything else one might need, like a bank or a grocery store or a hot meal out to eat. Steamboat Springs, Aspen, Vail, and Beaver Creek are also all just within a two-hour drive—but why go to another resort when, honestly, you can live at one?
