The Justified star will play a country music artist in a new play.
After extended television runs in HBO’s Deadwood and FX Network’s Justified, Timothy Olyphant is returning to the stage for the first time in two decades — specifically, for the first time since he portrayed a Christmas elf in David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries — to play a country music star in Hold On To Me, a new play by lauded screenwriter (You Can Count on Me) and playwright (This is Our Youth) Kenneth Lonegren.
According to Deadline.com, Olyphant will appear in the world premiere production February 24 through April 3 at the off-Broadway Atlantic Theater Company.
This is how the Atlantic describes Hold On To Me : “On learning of his mother’s death, world famous country and western star Strings McCrane (Olyphant) begins questioning the meaning of his life and what it all adds up to. Determined to abandon his celebrity and career, he moves back to his hometown in Tennessee. It doesn’t go well. This compelling new play from acclaimed playwright Kenneth Lonergan examines the costs of fame, fortune and narcissism in pursuit of the American Dream.”
