Brandon Lessard and Q’orianka Kilcher also appear in the western drama set for a June 13 release.
Three years after director Richard Gray gave us the well-crafted western Murder at Yellowstone City, he’s back in the saddle with The Unholy Trinity, a drama starring Pierce Brosnan (The Son, Seraphim Falls) and Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight).
Gray’s new western also features Murder at Yellowstone City veteran Brandon Lessard; Tim Daly of TV’s Madame Secretary; David Arquette of the Scream movie franchise; and Q’orianka Kilcher, who played activist Angela Blue Thunder on Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone series, and was voted a C&I Movie Award for her compelling lead performance in the 2017 biopic Te Ata.

Scripted by Lee Zachariah and set in 1870s Montana, The Unholy Trinity spins a tale or revenge, dark secrets, and buried treasures. Just before his hanging for a crime he claims he didn’t commit, Isaac Broadway makes his estranged son Henry (Lessard) promise to send the man who framed him to Boot Hill. Determined to fulfill that promise, Henry travels to the remote town of Trinity, where he is caught between Gabriel Dove (Brosnan), the town’s upstanding new sheriff, and a mysterious fellow known as St. Christopher (Jackson).
In the movie’s trailer, released earlier this week, Dove warns Henry: “Let me give you a bit of advice: Keep your ancestry between us. Not every man who is known is loved.” Unfortunately, St. Christopher already has the skinny on Isaac Broadway. “I know your daddy real well,” he tells Henry. “Me and him stole enough gold to pave the streets of heaven.”
Henry says he has no idea where his father hid their ill-gotten gain. But St. Christopher is not a man who accepts no for an answer, or even an option. “In case it ain’t obvious,” he says, “you will find that gold.”
Saban Films, in association with Roadside Attractions, plans to release The Unholy Trinity in theaters nationwide on June 13.
“This film,” said Jonathan Saba and Shanan Becker, co-presidents of Saban Films, said in a prepared statement, “embodies everything we love about westerns — an exploration of lawlessness vs. justice, civilization vs. the frontier, and a trio of gunslingers navigating a morally complex world.
“The Unholy Trinity is anchored by two absolute legends in Samuel L. Jackson and Pierce Brosnan, whose chemistry and gravitas, combined with [Richard Gray’s] bold vision, makes for an unforgettable ride. We’re excited for audiences to experience the vast, sweeping landscapes and pulse-pounding showdowns of this electrifying film on the big screen.”
Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff, co-presidents of Roadside Attractions, added: “Bronson and Jackson are screen legends and seeing them together in a film for the first time brought us great joy. With newcomer Brandon Lessard as the third leg of the trio, their work here will be a treat for anyone who loves westerns and stories about the American frontier.”
