The C&I cover star will be joining Billy Bob Thornton in the Taylor Sheridan-produced series.
During the past few weeks, there have been rumors circulating on various online platforms about Oscar nominee and C&I cover star Sam Elliott allegedly joining the cast for Season 2 of Landman, the Taylor Sheridan-produced drama now shooting in the Fort Worth area. Until now, however, there has been no official confirmation from Paramount+.
But never mind: Billy Bob Thornton, star of the series, has already spilled the beans.
In a recent video interview with Deadline about the upcoming second season, Thornton said Demi Moore and Andy Garcia “will figure into it more than they did last season. Which is nice, because I go way back with both of them. And it’s pretty cool [to have] Sam Elliott, who I go back to the mid-‘80s with. Yes, I’m old.”

There’s still no word yet regarding precisely what sort of role Elliott will play in the series. At the end of Season 1 — spoiler alert! — M-Tex Oil owner Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) died while hospitalized after a heart attack, leaving his wife Cami (Moore), along with his longtime friend and faithful landman Tommy Norris (Thornton), with the responsibility to continue operating the company he founded.
Chief among those responsibilities: Establishing a truce, or some kind of partnership, with Galino (Garcia), the kingpin of a drug cartel often at odds with M-Tex.
Presumably, Elliott will play a character who’s somehow involved in the oil business. But, then again, maybe he’ll be cast as a drug lord working with, or competing against, Galino. Or a DEA agent on his trail. Who knows?
By the way: This won’t be Elliott’s first appearance in the Taylor Sheridan Universe. In the Yellowstone prequel 1883, he portrayed Shea Brennan, the grizzled Pinkerton agent and Civil War veteran who signs on to lead a wagon train of westward-bound settlers. Elliott earned a Screen Actors Guild award for his impactful performance — and shared a few scenes with his buddy Thornton, who made a one-episode appearance as Marshal Jim Courtright, a badass Fort Worth lawman who gives suspects the right to remain silent… forever.
Season 2 of Landman will kick off later this year on Paramount+. Season 1 episodes can be accessed on the streamer, and will be released May 13 on DVD and Blu-Ray.
