What’s the buzz in fashion-forward luxury cowboy boots? C&I talks with the brains behind the boots of Miron Crosby.
Sarah Means and Lizzie Means Duplantis — the sister duo behind Miron Crosby — grew up on a fifth-generation cattle ranch outside Marfa, Texas. After graduating from Texas Christian University, they both moved to New York City, where they attracted lots of positive attention and curiosity about the cowboy boots they wore around town.
Now living with their families in Dallas, the sisters meld their Texas roots and New York fashion sense working together on their boot-making baby, Miron Crosby.
When C&I talked with them in Texas just before the kickoff of 2024 gift-buying season, Sarah was getting in the holiday spirit with Miron Crosby’s Noelle Green boots, and Lizzie was wearing their newly launched Wade Metallic Gold.
The photos included in this article were taken on property at Hôtel Swexan in celebration of the partnership between the hotel and the boot brand.
Cowboys & Indians: How did you get into cowboy-boot making?
Miron Crosby: Cowboy boots have been staples in our wardrobes for as long as we can remember. As fifth-generation cattle kids we were always wearing our boots, whether it was on the ranch, going to school, and everything in between. Even when we both lived in New York City, they were a go-to shoe for work, a night out, or just shopping around downtown on a Saturday afternoon. People would stop us on the street and ask about our boots, and that’s when we realized there was an appetite for a cowboy boot that put fashion at the forefront and fit with anyone’s style.
C&I: What’s the story behind the name of the company?
Miron Crosby: “Miron” is a play on our great-grandfather’s name, Marion Otis Means. “Crosby” has a dual meaning — it’s the name of a pasture on our family’s ranch, as well as a street in the heart of SoHo in New York City. The name felt like it perfectly blended our Texas roots with our love for New York as a fashion capital.
C&I: What’s different and special about your boots?
Miron Crosby: With Miron Crosby we’re pushing a category forward that hasn’t ever been reexamined. We use signature motifs like jumping stars, dancing tulips, and lazy hearts; silhouettes like deeply scalloped collars; and metallic finishes you won’t find on any other cowboy boot. We believe that a cowboy boot is high-fashion footwear, and we’re giving it the seat at the fashion table that it deserves.
C&I: Best thing about working with your sister?
Miron Crosby: The best part about working together is that we genuinely complement each other in terms of our strengths. Our combined experience in both fashion and business creates the perfect working relationship for us. We’re both very involved in every part of the business and love getting to collaborate on all aspects of it together.
C&I: Biggest challenge in working with your sister?
Miron Crosby: As sisters and co-founders we get to spend every day together, and building a brand together has been beyond special to the both of us. It can sometimes be difficult being in business with family, but we’ve always promised each other that our relationship comes before everything else.
C&I: How did the boot concierge program with Hôtel Swexan in Dallas start and what’s the idea behind it?
Miron Crosby: When Hôtel Swexan opened in 2023, we were beyond excited to hear about the new addition to Dallas. The hotel has so many amazing offerings and luxury experiences. When we were approached by their team about Cowboy Concierge, we knew the hotel would be a wonderful partner to bring this program to life with. Getting a pair of cowboy boots is a quintessential part of any trip to Texas. As a fashion cowboy boot brand, we wanted to bring the luxurious, personalized experience that we offer our customers to Hôtel Swexan’s guests. Through Cowboy Concierge, guests can order a pair of boots with customized ear pulls and message boxes ahead of their trip, and we’ll have them ready at check-in for them to sport around Texas and beyond.
C&I: What are your hopes and dreams for the company?
Miron Crosby: We started Miron Crosby with the dream of bringing our Texan roots to the world of luxury fashion and are still on our journey to do that. We hope to reinvent the perception of the cowboy boot and make it an aspirational style for everyone to wear for any and all occasions.
