Hippie Cowgirl Couture is breaking new ground with a partnership with Macza Pro Rodeo’s Prize Saddle Bronc, just in time for the 2024 NFR.
Fort Worth-based, female-owned turquoise jewelry brand Hippie Cowgirl Couture is crossing into the rodeo world with a groundbreaking partnership to be premiered at the 2024 National Finals Rodeo. Hippie Cowgirl Couture is proudly sponsoring Macza Pro Rodeo’s Saddle Bronc #6, naming the bucking horse “Squash Blossom Steely Dan.” This partnership marks the first time a Western jewelry brand has supported an equine athlete at the NFR.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the NFR with Squash Blossom Steely Dan, a true athlete embodying the heart and soul of the rodeo,” said a Hippie Cowgirl Couture spokesperson. “This partnership allows us to celebrate the Western spirit we love while supporting an incredible competitor. We hope this inspires other brands to join us in engaging with the rodeo world in meaningful ways.”
J.J. Wooten, owner of Hippie Cowgirl Couture, had one condition prior to finalizing the partnership — she wanted the bucking horse’s name to reflect the brand’s passion for turquoise jewelry. The two brands settled on “Squash Blossom Steely Dan,” a name which blends the elegance of the turquoise jewelry tradition with the explosive power of a winning bucking bronc.
Continuing the theme of breaking new ground, Squash Blossom Steely Dan has been dubbed the “bucking unicorn” due to his unique dapple-grey and white coat and powerful bucking performances. The eight-year-old horse caught the attention of the rodeo world when he burst out of the bucking chute at the 2024 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. After starting his rodeo career in bareback, Squash Blossom Steely Dan qualified as Saddle Bronc stock in time for the 2024 NFR, where he will be competing in the 1st and 6th rounds.
Hippie Cowgirl Couture may be the first Western jewelry brand to cross over into the field of equine athletes, but they don’t hope to be the last. Wooten and the rest of the Hippie Cowgirl team are hopeful that other Western jewelry and fashion brands will be compelled to participate more actively in rodeo, pulling together two important facets of Western culture.
