Timberlyne Group’s Cody Wortmann tells us about the inspiration behind his famous “barndominiums” and elevated manufactured timber homes.
“Timberlyne designs and manufactures wood barns and timber homes that are shipped across the country,” says Cody Wortmann, one of the company’s executive directors. “We definitely have the rustic aesthetic mastered.”
The refined part comes in when a family adds its personal touches to one of Timberlyne’s majestic timber homes or “barndominiums” — increasingly popular hybrids of residence and functional barn. “We embrace the flexibility that wood brings in design, allowing you to go from extremely rustic and rugged to modern and clean depending on taste and goals,” Wortmann says.
While Timberlyne works primarily with established blueprints and designs, they can customize elements of each home to a buyer’s needs and desired features, but there are certain elements that are always a given with Timberlyne projects.
“They all maintain a vaulted wood ceiling with the exposed timber interior, while offering a surprisingly energy-efficient and tight system.”
As far as interior styles and tones go, “you can keep the timbers natural with that honeytone color, or stain the timbers darker to give it a rustic elegance feeling. The walls can incorporate more wood or all drywall depending on the desires of each customer.”
We asked Wortmann to point out a few of his favorite Timberlyne designs.
PANORAMIC VIEWS RETREAT
“I love how rustic this interior is, yet the modern, floor-to-ceiling windows allow for unobstructed views in almost every direction.”
WHISTLEBEE FARM
“This is a newer project I photographed [last] summer, a stunning project inside and out. Modern take on a traditional style.”
THE ICON
“This is such an iconic image for Timberlyne. It’s our most popular barn style in a dreamy setting, so it will always be a favorite.”
WESTERN LUXURY
“This portrays the vision of many of our customers. Away from the hustle and bustle, barn style, yet used as a home and perfect for entertaining.”
COUNTRYSIDE
“The perfect backyard barn. Multi-purpose, but good for gatherings, and not too big. While we’ve done some massive, extraordinary builds, there’s something about this simple barn that is very appealing.”
