The upcoming Apple TV+ limited-run series details the hunt for John Wilkes Booth.
Emmy Award-winning actor Tobias Menzies (The Crown) portrays Edwin Stanton, the chief investigator in charge of the search for President Abraham Lincoln’s murderer, in Manhunt, the seven-part Apple TV+ limited-run series set to premiere March 15.
Based on Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer, the New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-winning non-fiction book from author James L. Swanson, the drama is described by Apple TV+ as “a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.”
Anthony Boyle (Masters of the Air) plays as John Wilkes Booth in a cast that also features Lili Taylor (Outer Range) as Mary Todd Lincoln, Hamish Linklater (pictured above with Taylor) as Abraham Lincoln, Patton Oswalt (Young Adult) as Detective Lafayette Baker, Lovie Simone (Power Book III: Raising Kanan) as Mary Simms, and Matt Walsh (Veep) as Dr. Samuel Mudd.
Apple TV+ released on Monday — President Lincoln’s 215th birthday — a featurette in which showrunner and executive producer Monica Beletsky (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights) joins members of the cast to discuss the inspiration for Manhunt.
