Coming soon to your living room, your iPhone, or wherever else you prefer to stream your cinema: Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese’s epic drama about the notorious “Reign of Terror” that targeted newly oil-rich Osage Native Americans in 1920s Oklahoma. The film, which has been nominated for several C&I Movie and TV Awards, will start streaming Jan. 12 on Apple TV+.
Based on the nonfiction best-seller by David Grann, it also has received multiple nominations for Golden Globe Awards (which will air Jan. 7 on CBS) and Critics Choice Awards (Jan. 14 on The CW), and is expected to be a major Oscar contender when Academy Award nominations are announced Jan. 23. Scorsese, his film, and members of his cast have already been honored by various film critic groups, with The New York Film Critics Circle, The National Board of Review, The Chicago Film Critics Association, and The Phoenix Film Critics Society naming Killers of the Flower Moon Best Picture of 2023.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion head the cast of Killers of the Flower Moon, an Apple Original Films production that was filmed on location in Oklahoma with significant input from the Osage Nation.
The official Apple plot synopsis: “At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), Killers of the Flower Moon is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal.”
