Martin Scorsese’s epic drama and co-star Robert De Niro land Movies for Grownups awards.
Chalk up more honors for Killers of the Flower Moon. Martin Scorsese’s celebrated drama about the notorious assaults on oil-rich Osage People in 1920s Oklahoma was named Best Picture, and co-star Robert De Niro (pictured above) was lauded as Best Supporting Actor, when AARP The Magazine announced on Wednesday winners of the publication’s annual Movies for Grownups (MFG) awards.
Also Wednesday: The Online Film Critics Society announced 11 nominations for Scorsese’s epic, including Best Picture, Best Director (Scorsese), Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Best Actress (Lily Gladstone).
For more than twenty years, AARP The Magazine’s Movies for Grownups have recognized the talent and experience of older actors and filmmakers. AARP continues to champion movies for grownups, by grownups, through advocating for the 50-plus audience, and encouraging films and TV shows that resonate with older viewers.
“It’s been a good year for shows and movies by and for people over 50,” said AARP TV and Film Critic Tim Appelo. “Grownup talent and stories are being recognized across the board, and ageism in Hollywood does seem to be gradually eroding, with help from AARP. In 2000, shortly before the Movies for Grownups Awards began, only one of the top ten box office stars was over 50; today, half are.”

Comprised of nearly 300 voting members from around the world who represent outlets including Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Slant, Paste Magazine, AARP, Sight & Sound, Screen Anarchy, Collider, The Film Stage and many more, the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS) annually presents traditional awards including Best Picture, Director, Actor and Actress, among others. Founded in 1997, members of the OFCS explore the nature of film from historical, sociological, political, emotional, technical, and other perspectives, appreciating film as a medium for art and a mode of entertainment.
In addition to the previously mentioned OFCS categories, Killers of the Flower Moon has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor (De Niro), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design.
A complete list of OFCS nominations is available here. Winners will announced Monday, Jan. 22.
Last week, Killers of the Flower Moon won five C&I Movie & TV Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress (Tantoo Cardinal), and Best Screenplay.
