Zahn McClarnon will be back on the case as Lt. Joe Leaphorn when the AMC series returns July 30.
Joe Leaphorn has no illusions about his invulnerability. “Everyone has to die eventually,” he concedes in the newly released trailer for Season 2 of Dark Winds, the acclaimed series based on the Leaphorn & Chee mystery novels by Tony Hillerman.
But that won’t stop the dedicated tribal police lieutenant from pursuing a psycho killer who’s cutting a bloody swath through his Navajo Nation community near Monument Valley during the early 1970s. Especially when Leaphorn finds a connection between his quarry and the years-earlier death of his son.
“I have to find out who’s behind this,” he vows. “By any means necessary.”
C&I reader favorite Zahn McClarnon is back in action as Joe Leaphorn for Dark Winds, which kicks off its second season July 30 on AMC, followed by new episodes airing weekly on Sundays. (Episodes will be available early on AMC+ starting July 27, with new episodes every Thursday.) Kiowa Gordon returns as Leaphorn’s ally Jim Chee, along with Jessica Matten as Sgt. Bernadette Manuelito.
A Martinez (Longmire, Powwow Highway) joins the cast this season as Valencia County Sheriff Gordo Sena, while Joseph Runningfox (The Politician, Valley of the Gods) will portray Henry Leaphorn, Lt. Joe Leaphorn’s father. This season also sees the return of series regulars Deanna Allison (Accused, Edge of America) as Emma Leaphorn and Elva Guerra (Reservation Dogs, Rutherford Falls) as Sally Growing Thunder.
They join two other new cast members: Nicholas Logan (The Inspection, Dopestick) and Jeri Ryan (a.k.a. Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Picard). Logan plays Colton Wolf, a twisted assassin with a secret that puts him on a collision course with Joe Leaphorn, while Ryan will appear as Rosemary Vines, a femme fatale whose physical frailties hide her naked ambition as she manipulates Jim Chee, leaving a trail of bodies in her wake.
For Season 2, Leaphorn reunites with Chee (Gordon), his former deputy turned private eye, when their separate cases bring them together in pursuit of the same suspect. They find themselves in the high desert of Navajo Country chasing a killer who’s turned his sights on them to protect a secret that rips open old wounds and challenges Leaphorn’s moral and professional code. With the help of Sgt. Manuelito and Sheriff Gordo Sena, Leaphorn and Chee must thwart their would-be assassin and restore balance not only to their own lives, but to the reservation that depends on them.
