Jack Elliott will be back in the saddle as Bat Masterson when the series returns April 6.
Once again, the legendary Bat Masterson will be tracking down other legendary figures — to speak with them, not shoot at them — for Season 3 of Wild West Chronicles, the popular docudrama series returning April 6 on INSP.
For the benefit of those who tuned in late: Wild West Chronicles cleverly imagines a series of assignments for Bat Masterson in the late 1880s, after the Old West lawman had reinvented himself as a New York-based newspaper reporter and columnist. Each week, Masterson (played by Jack Elliott) returns to the West to gather material — and conduct interviews — for in-depth, up-close profiles of such notables as Wild Bill Hickok, Bass Reeves, Annie Oakley, Butch Cassidy, Stagecoach Mary and Emmett Dalton. From these first-hand accounts, he aims to gather facts that often are stranger, and wilder, than fiction.
“Wild West Chronicles, one of our highest rated original series, has enjoyed a fiercely loyal following,” said Doug Butts, Executive Vice President of Programming for INSP. “Throughout the first two seasons, INSP audiences enjoyed stories featuring some of the most infamous and unsung characters of the American West. Each episode combined great drama, action, adventure, and accurate historical details with compelling storytelling to deliver a captivating episode every week. With the rich history the Wild West era has to offer, there is no shortage of exciting stories to tell.”
Season 3 of Wild West Chronicles — which is scheduled to air at 10 pm ET on Thursdays — consists of 13 episodes.
But wait, there’s more: “Given how well this series consistently performs,” Butts said, “we are also excited to announce that a fourth season of Wild West Chronicles already has been greenlit and is currently in production. A premiere date will be announced later this year.”
