Looks like this will be the first Western movie of 2023.
Mark Jan. 6, 2023 on your calendar: That’s the theatrical premiere date for The Old Way, a new Western drama starring Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage.
Directed by Brett Donowho, the same filmmaker who gave us the 2018 thriller Acts of Violence starring Bruce Willis and Cole Hauser, the indie production focuses on Colton Briggs (Cage), a former gunslinger who thought — or, to be more precise, hoped — he’d left his past behind. But when a gang of outlaws murder his wife, Briggs finds his world shattered and must once again take up arms in violence. But this time, he won’t be riding alone. Briggs now is a father, and must bring along his young daughter Brooke (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) to hunt down the man who killed her mother: James McAllister (Noah Le Gros), a man driven by his own demons and troubled past.
Fun fact: The Old Way — which is slated for a Jan. 13 VOD and digital release — is the first Western in which Cage has appeared. A second, Butcher’s Crossing, had its world premiere in September at the Toronto Film Festival, but has not yet been released.
