The rivalry between Gigi and Nicky heats up in “There Can Only Be One Queen.”
After scoring impressive ratings during its special Sept. 11 premiere episode, Monarch — the new Fox series about scheming and dreaming in the world of country music — will have its first regular Tuesday night timeslot airing at 9 pm ET Sept. 20.
What can we expect? Accord to Fox, the Roman family — led by paterfamilias Albie Roman (Trace Adkins) — will rally together after the tragic death of Dottie (Susan Sarandon, who evidently will make flashback appearances as the series continues). Nicky (Anna Friel, pictured above) and Gigi (Beth Ditto) grow even more competitive as the press dub Gigi the true successor to their mother’s reign as The Queen of Country Music.
Meanwhile, sparks fly between Nicky and Wade Stellings (Callum Kerr), the up-and-coming country artist that Luke (Joshua Sasse), Nicky and Gigi’s brother, has been eager to sign to the family’s Monarch record label. And Kayla (Meagan Holder), Gigi’s wife, discovers some shocking news that may or may not have something to do with her brief fling with Luke.
Here is a glimpse at a scene from Episode 102 of Monarch, There Can Only Be One Queen.
