The No Country For Old Men star heads the cast of the Prime Video western thriller premiering April 15.
The folks at Prime Video have been playing their cards pretty close to the vest while teasing us with advance info about Outer Range, a new series set to premiere April 15 on the streaming platform. And, if truth be told, they don’t reveal much more in the newly released trailer for what they describe as a “trippy western thriller.” Even so, we have to admit: We’re eager to see what awaits us in what looks like Yellowstone meets Twin Peaks. Mind you, this most certainly won’t be your father’s western. But, then again, neither is Yellowstone, right?
Josh Brolin (pictured above with co-stars Tom Pelphrey and Lewis Pullman) heads the cast as Royal Abbott, a rancher who discovers, while fighting for his land and family, an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. The trailer indicates he’s at a loss to explain or understand recent events that bespeak supernatural influences, and is requesting — well, OK, more like demanding — some kind of sign from the Lord. But the trailer also indicates you should be careful what you wish for.
(Warning: This trailer contains language that John Dutton might use in everyday conversations.)
As we have previously reported, Prime Video has been nothing if not provocatively evasive while telling us precisely what Outer Range is all about:
“At the onset of the series, the Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of daughter-in-law Rebecca. They are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons (the gaudy owners of the neighboring profit-driven ranch) make a play for their land. An untimely death in the community sets off a chain of tension-filled events, and seemingly small-town, soil-bound troubles come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts’ west pasture. Wild revelations unfold as Royal fights to protect his family; through his eyes, we begin to see how time contains secrets held in the past and unsettling mysteries foreshadowed.”
Maybe the guys from Supernatural should be called in to investigate?
By the way: Yes, that is Will Patton you see in the trailer. And if you’re a Yellowstone fan, you will not be surprised at all to learn he’s playing another Mr. Bad Vibes here: Wayne Tillerson, a longtime adversary of Royal. Also featured in the supporting cast: Imogen Poots (I Know This Much is True), Lili Taylor (American Crime), Tamara Podemski (Coroner), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), Shaun Sipos (Krypton), Isabel Arraiza (The Little Things), and Olive Abercrombie (The Haunting of Hill House).
The eight-episode premiere season of Outer Range starts April 15, with two episodes released each week. We can’t wait.
