Will Patton, Lili Taylor and Imogen Poots co-star in the Prime Video drama set for an April premiere.
Back in our January 2022 issue, we noted that early reports about Outer Range, the upcoming Prime Video series starring C&I reader favorite Josh Brolin, made it sound “a lot like a spookier version of Yellowstone.”
Guess what? We may have been closer to the mark than we thought.
According to a press release out today from Prime Video, the eight-episode series, set to premiere in April, “centers on Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. A thrilling fable with hints of wry humor and supernatural mystery, Outer Range examines how we grapple with the unknown.”
OK, to paraphrase Leonardo DiCaprio’s famous line in Django Unchained: They already had our interest. Now they have our attention.
“At the onset of the series,” the statement continues, “the Abbotts are coping with the disappearance of daughter-in-law Rebecca. They are pushed further to the brink when the Tillersons (the gaudy owners of the neighboring profit-driven ranch) make a play for their land. An untimely death in the community sets off a chain of tension-filled events, and seemingly small-town, soil-bound troubles come to a head with the arrival of a mysterious black void in the Abbotts’ west pasture. Wild revelations unfold as Royal fights to protect his family; through his eyes, we begin to see how time contains secrets held in the past and unsettling mysteries foreshadowed.”
Wow. And just in case all that weren’t enough, consider: Will Patton, the manipulative (and recently deceased) Garrett Randall of Yellowstone, appears here as another untrustworthy type: Wayne Tillerson, a longtime adversary of Royal. Gee, and he was such a sweet, God-fearing fellow last year in Minari.
Also featured in the supporting cast: features an ensemble cast of award-winning and breakout talent, including Imogen Poots (I Know This Much is True), Lili Taylor (Perry Mason), Tamara Podemski (Coroner), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), Shaun Sipos (Krypton), Isabel Arraiza (The Little Things), and Olive Abercrombie (The Haunting of Hill House).
We’ll post additional details as they’re made available during the build-up to the April premiere of Outer Range on Prime Video. Until then, you might want to check out this article on the Vanity Fair website.
