The Yellowstone prequel starring Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and C&I reader favorite Sam Elliott is set to premiere Dec. 19 on Paramount+.
Every journey has its perils. Every legacy has its cost.
That’s the official tagline for 1883, the highly-anticipated prequel to Yellowstone that premieres on Paramount+ Dec. 19.
Paramount+ says the spinoff series from Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan, which focuses on the ancestors of Yellowstone/Dutton Ranch paterfamilias John Dutton (Kevin Costner), “follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America's promised land — Montana.”
Country stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, C&I reader favorite Sam Elliott, LaMonica Garrett (Designated Survivor) and Isbael May (Alexa & Katie) are among the major players in what looks like a lavishly produced, epic-sized drama. From our January 2021 cover story:
Taylor Sheridan is on the phone, on the road. After wrapping up production on the fourth season of Yellowstone, his smash-hit Paramount Network series starring Kevin Costner as the proud paterfamilias of a powerful Montana ranching family, the multitalented writer-director-producer is on his way back to his native Texas, where he and his wife, actress-model Nicole Muirbrook, currently have two home bases.
It’s a long way from Hollywood, where Sheridan first gained prominence as an actor — his credits include continuing roles in the TV series Veronica Mars and Sons of Anarchy — and now visits mainly for meetings with “the suits” about his writing and directing projects. Chief among those achievements: Sicario (2015) and Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018), two explosive crime dramas about FBI agents tracking Mexican drug lords; Hell or High Water (2016), a tale of Texas Rangers (Jeff Bridges, Gil Birmingham) on the hunt for bank-robbing brothers (Chris Pine, Ben Foster); Wind River (2017), Sheridan’s official debut as a feature film director; and the forthcoming Those Who Wish Me Dead, his second directorial effort, starring Angelina Jolie as a smoke-jumper bent on protecting a teenage murder witness from hit men during a raging forest fire.
