A Great Dane steals the heart of one of C&I's loyal readers.
We asked you to share your stories and photos of the dogs that changed your lives. This sweet note came courtesy of Oklahoma City reader Dawn Chernicky:
Being the daughter of a fourth generation veterinarian, I grew up knowing the joy and heartache of what owning animals can bring. Every time someone would drop off a dog they didn’t want, I would end up with a new best friend.
Even at the age of 6, I was busy becoming the family “dog trainer.” Over the years, we raised horses, goats, pigs, Guineas, and a variety of cats and dogs. For some reason, I have always had a special place in my heart for big dogs.
Boston is my fourth Great Dane, and he has stolen my heart completely. Since I recently retired, after 43 years with OKCPS, I get to spend every morning and evening with my big boy sprawled across my lap. He loves to roughhouse with my Red Heeler, Annie, and spends as much time on his back with her grabbing his neck as the other way around.
Boston is neutered and chipped, and I love his natural floppy ears. I am grateful to have him share my life. At 21 months, he still has some growing to do, but as long as he can find my lap, and I can wrap my arms around his neck, my life is good.
