Celebrate National Ranch Water Day on April 11.
In the past decade, “ranch waters” have become something of a common Western libation, especially in Texas. Concocted with just tequila, lime, and sparkling water, this simple, three-ingredient tipple is often referred to as Texas’ version of skinny margarita and the unofficial cocktail of West Texas. Now, it’s getting its own holiday. April 11 will forever be celebrated as National Ranch Water Day thanks to the folks at RancH2O Spirits, who registered the holiday with the National Day Archives.
“The Ranch Water cocktail deserves its own celebration, like its cousin, the margarita,” says RancH2O CEO (and Texan) Amelia Lettieri. For those with extra convenience in mind, RancH20 sells this signature cocktail in canned form along with several other offerings including the Vodka Soda with Cranberry, Classic Marg, and Gin Fizz.
And if you haven’t yet mixed this sparkling refreshment for yourself yet, here’s the simple recipe to enjoy on National Ranch Water Day—or any other day.
How to Make a Ranch Water
Mix 2 oz. tequila and 1 oz. lime juice in a tall glass filled with ice. Top with Topo Chico or your choice of sparkling water. Optional: Add a pinch of salt or Tajin-rimmed glass.
