The American folk duo debut their cover of “Phone Down,” exclusively with C&I.
The premiere: Written and originally performed by Erykah Badu, “Phone Down” is the latest cover from Handmade Moments. It appears on their upcoming album, Number Ones, available November 1.
About the artists: Composed of Anna Moss and Joel Ludford, Handmade Moments moved from their hometown of Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Argentina, then to Oakland, California, before finally settling down in New Orleans, where the talented duo continue to incorporate their love of adventure into their music.
Anna Moss says: “We live in an age where technology rules our lives. We socialize with friends, find romance, and navigate through the world with our cellphones. Our phones are extensions of us, but they can also become our masters — beeping and alerting us at every waking hour! We recently played music for an adult summer camp where technology was forbidden. Upon arrival, people wearing hazmat suits and using tongs collected all phones, laptops, watches, and tablets from campers. The purpose of the camp was ‘digital detox.’ I am a huge Erykah Badu fan, and I couldn’t stop thinking of this song the entire time we were at the camp. ‘Phone Down’ became our anthem. For me, it’s a reminder that life existed before phones, and there is so much beauty to see when you take your eyes off the screen.”
