Denim staples to keep your Western style fresh through every season.
Western culture naturally sparks inspiration for fabulous style but with so many ways to put together an outfit, where should you begin? It can feel like a daunting task to find Western inspiration in your wardrobe while standing in front of your closet without a clue of what to pull from its hanger. Not to worry – Consider this your step-by-step shopping guide to building a Western inspired wardrobe, starting with the pieces that ground every accessory and statement piece in your collection. In fact, you may even be able to shop within your own closet to refresh pieces that have collected dust for too long.

Denim is a Western staple on the ranch as well as in your streetwear. In other words, it will serve as a pillar of style in your closet as it’s the most basic layering piece. Denim is very versatile, but there are a few key pieces to keep at the front of your closet for regular wear.
BOOT CUT JEANS
Boot cut jeans are the quintessential Western denim style, as they’re tailored for boots. A classic dark wash will suit you well for both dressy and casual occasions and will mesh well with most boot styles in your collection. A well-fitting pair of boot cut jeans look fabulous paired with a blazer and a crisp hat, or thrown with a tee and ball cap - whichever suits your style. Western influencer Marijka Hunsaker pulled the best of both worlds together in this picture for a polished yet casual Western look.

TROUSER JEANS
For our ladies, trouser jeans are a trend we don’t see going out of style anytime soon. The trouser fit has a looser silhouette, similar to that of an office pant but made with denim. The trouser has remained a favorite in the livestock show arena as well as in the Western fashion scene, as it’s both professional and stylish. We love them high waisted for comfort and polish. This pair from Buckin Wild Designs is the perfect example of a stylish trouser in action.

DENIM JACKET
A classic denim jacket is a go-to layering piece for every season. This piece easily goes from ranch to out on the town with a few style tweaks. Pair it with a classic button up, a silk wild rag or on top of a Western graphic tee for a laid-back feel. This is also a great opportunity to shop vintage: old Wrangler cowboy-fit jackets never go out of style. Make sure to pick the wash and fit that feels best to you! Thanks to Meghan Gates for showing us how to nail the effortless look in her denim must-have.

DENIM BUTTON DOWN
The top half of a Canadian tuxedo turns out to be a pretty handy wardrobe staple as well. A denim button down is a classic piece easily paired with vests, jackets, a wild rag or Southwestern jewelry. Mix and match this piece with any color you choose and you’ll look sharp, guaranteed. If you're feeling bold, you can even pair it with more denim for a retro look. Kimes Ranch Jeans styled this classic ensemble perfectly topped with a loosely tied silk wild rag.
