The husband-wife duo premiere the music video for their track “No Mountain Girl.”
The song: “No Mountain Girl,” off of Dewey & Leslie Brown and the Carolina Gentlemen’s newest release, Under the Mountain, available now.
About the band: Before becoming a duo with wife Leslie, Dewey Brown spent more than a decade playing fiddle with bluegrass legend Dr. Ralph Stanley and made a number of high-profile appearances, including The Late Show With David Letterman, Carnegie Hall, and a performance for Queen Elizabeth.
His dynamic pairing with his equally talented singer-songwriter wife (vocals, bass) has amassed a following among bluegrass traditionalists and Americana fans alike. Their latest release with their band, the Carolina Gentlemen, Under the Mountain, earned them the Traditional American Bluegrass CD of the Year award from the Rural Roots Music Commission.
The album: Under the Mountain has a track list of 14 songs. Twelve of those were penned by Leslie, whose upbringing as a coal miner’s daughter inspired the collection.
About the video: Directed by Emmy winner Dean Jones and produced by Starr Jones, the music video alternates between a live performance by Dewey & Leslie Brown and the Carolina Gentlemen and narrative vignettes of a young couple who meet at a bar and venture into Bonnie-and-Clyde-esque scenarios.
About the production: “We are so honored to work with the Emmy Award-winning Dean Jones on this project, It was so much fun!” say Dewey & Leslie Brown. “Dean has produced many Hollywood movies and done some really big things in his career, so we are so grateful for him. This was our first time being involved with sets and filming, and we really did have a ball. The actors did a great job and we are so excited to share it with the world. We hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we enjoyed filming it.”
Why we like it: It’s fun to have the lyrics of a song come to life in a visual that draws you in to both a performance and a story. That’s exactly what the Browns have done here with “No Mountain Girl.”
