Call ’em wide, call ’em extended. Whatever you call them, these calves are made for walkin’ — and these boots are made to fit ’em.
Thank goodness someone’s paying attention to real women’s legs and the fact that they come in sizes other than straight and skinny. Mine have always been muscular, and as any gal with strong calves can tell you, it isn’t always easy to find boots that will zip or pull over them.
So it’s a champagne-toast discovery that many bootmakers now offer “wide calf” or “extended calf” cowboy boots for women.
A quick search on Zappos turned up this: “Wide Calf Cowboy Boots For Women, 13226 items found.” I’m not sure about 13,000-plus items — that can’t be right — but there were enough pictured search results on the page that I was clicking away, taking notes and planning outfits.
Laredo makes a cool snip-toe wide calf. Tecovas offers some styles, too. Lucchese can accommodate extended-calf requests through customer service phone orders or in-store (not online). And this fall, Ariat will be introducing new extended-calf styles in its mainline and seasonal collections.
The pair I’m dying over at the moment are Old Gringo. The description seems like it's talking to me:
- Slip into the beautiful look and roomy comfort of the Bonnie 13” Relaxed Fit boot (image at right).
- Luxurious leather upper with feminine floral embroidery.
- Roomier calf area allows for a more comfortable fit.
Relaxed fit! Roomy comfort! Music to my ears — and my calves.
