Los Angeles singer-songwriter Gregory Ackerman debuts his music video for “Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None (State of the Union),” exclusively with C&I.
Folk singer-songwriter Gregory Ackerman recently released the track “Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None (State of the Union),” off of his forthcoming album And Friends, out May 25.
Driven by acoustic guitar and Ackerman’s layered vocals, “Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None (State of the Union)” brings today’s issues to the forefront. The politically fueled track was written in response to 24-hour news cycles and points to the flaws in modern society.
“Specifically, this song talks about gun control, greed, nuclear war, poverty, and the song itself is its own chaotic loop counting down from ‘ten voices on the TV screen’ to the ‘only ruler of a world that's blown to bits,’” Ackerman says. “I felt I needed to capture a chaotic, emotional, energy-filled environment in order to properly convey what this song is about.”
C&I has an exclusive first look at the music video for the song. In keeping with the track, the video focuses on current events and shortcomings.
“I filmed most of the footage for this video at the March for Our Lives rally happening in downtown Los Angeles,” Ackerman says. “There were a bunch of young kids out there screaming out for their lives, screaming for change, screaming for adults to start doing something, anything, and I just felt like I needed to capture that. It was incredible. The energy down there was electric, chaotic, and overall incredibly inspiring. I wanted to try to capture some of that raw emotion and energy for my video. But to counter that, I included images of Instagram and Twitter feeds, as well as the talking heads of the 24-hour news cycle, because that is how so much of our world now gets its news, and that’s how so much of our world interacts with each other. We are in our own ‘social’ bubbles and don’t interact with each other the same way as we would in face-to-face situations.”
