These drinks will beat back winter’s icy reach.
Whiskey warms the extremities—and, dare we say, the soul — during this dusky, frigid season. One of our favorites pays homage to one of the West’s great rodeos — the Pendleton. While we must wait until late summer for the storied contest-on-grass and its gourmet offerings, we can raise an invigorating glass to stave off winter’s chill with three recipes courtesy Pendleton Whisky.
Pendleton Toddy
2 ounces Pendleton Whisky
1 teaspoon honey
4 ounces hot water
1 cloved orange peel, for garnish
Add ingredients directly to a hot toddy mug and stir briefly. Garnish with a cloved orange peel.
Barrel Racer
2 ounces Pendleton Whisky
Sweetened ice coffee with milk
1 small powdered doughnut, for garnish
Pour whiskey into a glass of choice, top with ice coffee, and stir briefly. Garnish with one small powdered doughnut.
Midnight Manhattan
1½ ounces Pendleton Midnight
¾ ounces sweet vermouth
3 dashes angostura bitters
Maraschino cherry, for garnish
Stir ingredients very well with ice in a cocktail shaker, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass or over a large ice cube into a rocks glass. Garnish with Maraschino cherry.
