Don “Red” Barry stars as Lee Grant, a wandering cowboy whose post-Civil Wars travels take him to the Santa Rita Valley, where he and sidekick Jimpson Simpson (Wally Vernon) find themselves caught in the middle between John King (Harry Cording), a wealthy rancher who wants to get even richer from a railroad project, and Doris King (Nancy Gay), John’s lovely niece, who has good reason to believe her father’s “accidental” death might not have been an accident after all.
Naturally, because Lee is the hero of the piece, he winds up on the side of the distressed damsel. As the picture progresses, however, the audience discovers that he also has a deeply personal reason for taking on the despot known widely as “King John.”
